This is our recently completed project: the photographs show views of a 1926 Pullman built private car that is being totally renewed for modern use. This is a working track inspection car, not an executive or official’s private car. We’re proud to be setting a high standard for a car of this type.

• Outside swing hanger six wheel trucks from the 1950’s have been totally rebuilt with renewed trammed frames, new springs, axles, bearings, bearing boxes, wheelsets, and more.
• Full Head End Power, along with 80 KW Generator, and 240 Volt wayside power offer choices in electricity feeding the on board UPS (uninterrupted power supply) for flawless computer operation.
• New 300 gallon diesel fuel tank, 300 gallon stainless steel water tanks, and Waste Digestion systems provide for significantly extended totally self-contained operation.
• State of the art plumbing conserves water through the use of a waterless urinal and high-pressure macerator jet assisted commode.  Water meters report consumption to an operator’s station.  All water pipes have freeze protection with electric heat traces and burst proof piping.
• The car interior is generously appointed with cherry woodwork through out, some of which makes for an attractive compliment to the all stainless steel kitchen and handsome observation lounge, as shown in our photos.

• Built in 1926 by Pullman, Car 99 was commissioned by financier George F. Baker Jr., a director at the Pullman Company.
• In 1937, the car transferred to the Lackawanna Railroad for business car service, renamed Pocono 99.
• In the 1950’s. installed new 6-wheel outside swing hanger trucks.
• In 1962, the car transferred to Jersey Central Railroad along with Perry Shoemaker, the third president of the Lackawanna Railroad.
• In 1968, Shoemaker sold the car to private owner Peter Bell, who renamed the car “Belford 99”. It was stored at Washington Union Station.
• Bell donated the car to the Smithsonian Institution, then loaned it to the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation in Pittsburgh, PA. In storage there the car was vandalized and the interior burned.
• In 2000 the car was moved to Bangor & Aroostook Railroad ( BAR ) and stored in Newport, VT.
• The BAR folded. The car was transferred to new ownership, the Montreal Maine & Atlantic Railroad (MMA) and relocated to Derby, Maine. The MMA was sold to Central, Maine and Quebec Railroad (CM&Q).
• In 2016 CM&Q sold the car to NS.  The car was brought up to FRA specifications and moved in freight service to Roanoke, VA to begin the rebuild process. On July 13, 2017 the car was delivered to Willetts Railcar Services, LLC in Spencer, NC for renovation.  The car was delivered to NS on April 11, 2022 for movement to Roanoke for installation of research technology.
